“Found it!” Avo places a glossy black stone in a hidden pocket just inside his belt.

“Oh good, I was beginning to think it was lost forever.”

“Now, if we can just get Mother to put together a few meals for the road, we can get on our way. The funeral is in ten days’ time, and it’s going to take us a good week to walk to Kallinford.”

“Why do you suppose Gramps and Mother were so eager to see us go? Mother especially has been pretty protective since Dad died.”

“Don’t know and don’t plan on asking. Never look a gift horse in the mouth, brother.”

“Well, I hope I can find work there. I don’t plan on coming back for a while. You still thinking of signing on with the mercs or caravan guard?”

“Well, unless something better comes along. How many jobs do you know of that need magic as a skill? That’s right, none.”

“I hope you find something near Kallinford Avo; I’d miss you.”

“I’d miss you too, Delus, but I’m keeping my options open. The bigger the adventure, the better.”

“I still don’t see why we need to get there for the funeral.”

“It makes sense if you think about it. There will be all kinds of travelers in town from far and wide to pay their respects. More opportunities, ya know.”

“Hmm, I suppose you’re right. All I got left is to grab my bow, and I’m ready.”
