A band of minstrels meet in a tavern in Korhan. They gather at The Griff, a place where mercenaries sell their swords to highborn merchants. Offers are made and passed on, but an attack on the street draws them together in defense of a woman. Battle ensues, a troll drops, orchestrators descend, Stormshield, and a contingent of Red Sun Pelor Clerics, who step in to apprehend Beck, the one who used the arcane arts.

There is no law in Kraymorden, or Muershaden, against the use of magic, though there is also no resistance to the Red Suns dissuading the use. More so, among many in the land, it has an undercurrent of support. The mage sect has been labeled as haughty, superior, distant, and perhaps dangerous. Stories are spread, many accepted forthright by the people.

Stormshield steps in and conscripts the band to travel to an ally’s keep, Jo’har’s Keep, to help protect against a small incursion as his keep is not well fortified. The Red Suns back off.

The band travels with Barek, they dispatch savage ogres on the way and find themselves doubling the keep’s force upon their arrival. The attack ensues as expected, a chained ogre drawing in the red-eyed creatures that arrived through the fog-shrouded gate. As the savage goblins and orcs fall, they grow more savage, and soon the lifeless ogre awakens and breaks his chains. In its effort to go for a weapon, the band cuts his strings, quickly dispatching the beast.

Barek of Stormshield falls in the battle, savagely gutted by an orc. There is blood and injury among the survivors, but they will survive. Jo’har and those taking refuge in the keep, breath more easily.

Light colors the sky as day breaks.

Jo’har had lost several men when the ogre and a contingent of goblins attacked them. One he lost was a mage, he feels he can tell you. Where his spellbook was not recovered, he did have a special amulet of spell storing up to a third-level spell, currently it houses a single haste spell with a duration of 6 rounds for 6 targets.

He will also gift the group the +1 greatsword he loaned Krex.

He has some healing potions made from medicinal plants on his property but as he has no cleric near, he’ll hold on to those. But he does have an amulet of cure light wounds mass (1d8+5) with 4 charges on it. This amulet has a range of 50′ and also has 6 charges of battlefield spam at 100′ (increases a spam, does not provide any extra spam). He’ll trade that for healing up his men before the visitors depart.

He also gives the party his daughter’s friend, Crystal. She’s 16 years old, mouthy and has all the earmarks of being high maintenance. She had come to the keep for the summer, back when travel was safe, but he’s had no way to escort her back to her family, the Aryns, once things began to crumble. The Aryns are planning to fetch her, but their ranks have been thin. He would be comfortable sending her with the party to “personally deliver her home.” Jo’har insinuates that looking at her, he’s not sure the road would be safe for her among hero or beast.

XP is 700 for the siege.

There is also campaign information under Cryl’s story you may wish to check out.

Post anywhere on the Muershaden site before next Tuesday and claim another 100 xp.

What’s worse than a traveling with you NPC? An NPC you want to murderize at every turn.

At least some of the party can ride out of earshot. Some just have to ride the uncovered wagon.
