Planning on leaving so I think I’ll jot down my thoughts.
The way I see it-
10th
Cherry Hill is a nice place. Most haven’t heard of it, but I call it home. I ain’t surprised that it goes unnoticed. It’s just a tiny village north and east of Kellingham. Probably got no more’n fifty good hearted folks that live there. Cherry Hill I mean, not Kellingham.
Dad’s a fisherman by trade. The river ain’t no more’n hundred paces from my house’s back door. Mom died when I was young. Murdered by Orcs dad says. She musta been a good looker though cause my dad is as ugly as a troll’s butt, take a look at me tho and you know the good looks came from somewhere.
Love Cherry Hill. Love the people and love my dad, but it’s as boring as a watching goats eat grass. So, last week I told dad I was off to make out on my own. Maybe go to Kellingham and meet a girl and start a business. I’ve always been good with my hands, helps with the girls and business. We shared a few glasses of wine and then dad dug out some old walking boots and a rusty dagger that he said belonged to grandad. Handed em over with a smile and patted me on the back. That was it, no long goodbyes.
15th
Kellingham is not for small town folks like me. Met a couple of girls alright but they weren’t the type for settle’n down. Okay with me though, back in Cherry Hill there was only Sally Kipsy who was worth look’n at. her and I rolled around from time to time just cause we was bored. I heard a rumor that there was an old thief that lives in Mon Rapatta. For a couple of coppers he’ll show you how to pick a lock. I think that town is probably more my size. Gonna head that way tomorrow and see if I can’t learn a thing or two.

He seems like a very pragmatic person. You did see that thing I said in my background about security in one’s possessions being a foundation of civil society? Yes. Ah good, just checking.

I hope you are well and I trust the folks in Cherry Hill are enjoying the simple pleasures of fishing, farming and having a good ale at the end of the day as usual. So much has changed since I left and I feel more than a bit ashamed that I haven’t written before now. I truly am sorry about that.
When I left Cherry Hill I had no idea where I was really going and what I would get into. I figured some small business in the big city. Instead, I wound up with a group of heroes on a quest. And not just any quest but a quest to rid the land of a dragon, undead and a lich. Yes, you read that right. Things I always assumed were mostly stories and myth are totally real and scary.
I wonder how fast news travels but I’m sure you have heard by now that I have been appointed King. Just writing that makes me want to laugh. I have no business being out of Cherry Hill, much less slaying monsters and being crowned a king. Yet, here I am. Surrounded by my best friends who are now my councilors and who now watch over me like mother hens. I am truly blessed to have them or I and the land would be in a hot soup.
Malus is a big half orc who is very wise. I lean on him and his wisdom often and I’m very grateful to call him my friend. He makes me feel safe and he really knows how to interact with people. He is always reminding me, “Rupert you are the King. You must decide.” Otherwise, I think I might just do what he recommends at every turn. Mostly, I still do.
The wizard Sid that joined us not that long ago, is well versed in the ends and outs of nobility. I would have likely screwed up more than one meeting with the powers that be if it weren’t for him. I imagine he often wonders to himself how a low-land bumpkin like me wound up in this position. But if so, he doesn’t let on.
Crag keeps me on my toes. He’s a surly Dwarf, as if there are other kinds, and is always looking at me like I’m a stupid child. Can’t blame him. He’s much older and experienced than me and he doesn’t seem to have a real fondness for humans much less a youngster with a tilted crown on their head. He is as tough as they come and although he won’t bend a knee I hope he stays around.
Strum has become my great defender. Though he has little patience for humans in general and expects we will screw up the kingdom, he has decided to keep me upright and out of harms way for the time being. Last week he went to fetch a old wise man in town and I do believe the man thought he was under arrest. He made the poor old chap jump around on hot coals before telling him what was what. I imagine he was scared he was about to be hung. I doubt the elves including Strum, will have much use for our new kingdom but I am grateful to call at least one elf, friend.
Anders recently was killed fighting the Lich and her undead. He was a good man and would have made a fine choice for king. He was well rounded as a fighter and spokesman and very well liked by all. I would have been glad to support him.
My guess is that you and everyone else will know the name Lord Ford before long. I have looked up to Lord Ford since the day we met. He carries himself like a lord and has an air about him that just makes you want to bow or take a knee. He doesn’t suffer fools and his fuse is shorter than old man Potter’s which has caused some rifts with some folks. I think most misunderstand Lord Ford and do the do not pay enough attention to his actions but instead focus too much on his words. I believe despite his rough edges, he truly loves the people and especially respects law and order.
Our Kingship was in some part a vote among the council. I chose Ford but before the words even came out of my mouth, it was clear that it was not to be. I offered to set the crown (specter and ring really) aside if Ford chose not to support me. I think he knows better than most how to run a land and how to see through the silver tongued language and misdirection of others. I would not think of doing this without him.
I’ve got to get on with things here father. I’ve sent a few men along with this message in hopes that you would make the trip to Whiterock. I would love to see you but it will be some time yet before I can break away.
Love,

Hi Mom and Dad, can you bow, please. I know, I know, but don’t make it weird.
