    And lo, it’s begun.

This incursion has seeped into the dank corners and dark recesses of Muershaden. There it festers, taking hold of those with weak fortitude. Once inside, it grips the mind, infecting, conscripting—spreading the rot.

A war against the failings of lesser men was staged. The battles were to be waged, orchestrated by those most wise. In the Hall of Thorns, we met—the Seven. We would take this charge and sever the wounds left unclosed by the Savage Landers, who destroyed the gate with the Chaos Gem. This, to the dismay of the Witch Queen, Bashira of Tanseria.
But wars and strategies shift when sickness takes hold.

And sickness had arrived in the Hall of Thorns. Rich power crept into the arcane minds of the other six. I saw it. I felt it. And when I realized I was outnumbered, I took my leave—to here—where I could create the design to rid the land of this incursion.

Power lured even the greatest minds. But I saw what they did not. This was power we did not understand. I sent a secret word to the dark corners. I was the demonologist. I was the one who knew them. And they came.

The demons arrived, and I enslaved them. I took their dark power, harnessed it, twisted it to my purpose. From this power, I wrote the Tome of the Crimson Covenant. Through it, I watch the others. It shows me where they are. Who they infect. They move through the land, sowing corruption—while I craft the means to defeat them.

All that remains absent is the Chaos Gem.

Without it, even I feel the lure of my control. The cocktail I drink each day grants me power, sight—yet I know it warps me. I cannot retrieve the Gem alone. It must be brought to me. Before the elixirs twist me beyond return.

Today, at this moment, I hold control of my mind. Yet every day, I slip further.

I write this so you may take the mantle my fortitude has abandoned. The six are here, moving in secret, continuing their conquests. They infest houses, searching for vessels to take to the chasm—preparing to bring forth the Lord of the Abyss and others of the great dark. The gate is set to open. And when it does, all lands shall fall.

The six dog wizards must be thwarted. They are known not by who they once were, but by what they have become:

Sand. Fire. Poison. Blight. Tempest. Frost.

Beware the book. It is knowledge, but it is dark. No more than one elixir every three days. One for a page. I have mapped them for you.

Really? They couldn’t have made the elexer cherry flavored! Some days I miss Tippy, he always had something to add to a drink to make it tasty.

Are these hard and fast rules or just guidelines? I bet you could drink all the viles and speed read the book and you would be just fine.
