    Aron comes through the portal. He is Erynyes and he’s a medium outsider devil from the hell plane who the party first met in Sandrypha before they took the portal to Bulstapher to claim their skycoach and passage to the Savage Lands.

    “Though you are not my friends, you are the enemy of my enemies. Together we must face this incursion as it breaks all that the outside planes hold sacred. While all of us may cross planes to serve our needs and desires, no plane may be allowed to insert an army to claim this plane as its own.

    “You have looked down on the gates they’ve opened. One comes from their plane, the other gates, when opened, deliver them to all corners of Meurshaden. There they usurp the ruling houses with weak and strong demons, quietly infecting those around them as they prepare to open the final gate that was thwarted by previous heroes when they took the Chaos Gem you now hold.

    “The wizard you seek, Merthan, may help you with this. He claims to be the scholar of demonology, yet he, like most others, do not know of these gates being manipulated beneath these Black Mountains. Before you travel to him, you would do well to cut off the spicket.

    “Once you learn to master this gem, it will open gates. At this point, you need little instruction to use it to close these gates. This gem will repel some, it will enrage and madden others. This gem, like this plane, knows only law and chaos. Good or evil play no part. For each gate you can close, beginning with their plane gate, it will buy you valuable time. Escape once you close the gates you can, may be compromised.

    “The demons hold their vigil outside this cave. I can’t get you close to the demons’ gates, but I can take 7 of you close through my portal. From there you will reunite with the watchers and form your plan. Or you may fly to Merthan and leave that spicket open.”

    Beck and Zor can identify that the Chaos Gem gives the holder a +2 save against illusions, and will subdue lesser demons in a 20’ radius. It will close a gate with a spell check of 22 when within 10’. There is a DC 25 fort save for any non-chaos aligned that come in contact with the gem, DC 18 when in the leather case.

    The gem has been inserted into the small chest, revealing a map inside along with 2 heal potions and 7 gems.

    Take 2300 XP for retrieving the Chaos Gem

    We should quickly pour a heal potion down Tilly’s gullet and see if it helps.

    What about cure serious wounds? Too soon?
