– NoneStory Arc: We returned to Whiterocks to find Veronica the Bard at the inn. She’d just come from Riverdown and presented Ford with a wooden carving of the nymph made by Alex Kendelshire. The Magistrate of Whiterocks, Malcolm Vandergriff, came to inquire of us at the inn as a result of the notoriety that we were accumulating. He asked us to visit him at the court of the Magistrate on the morrow. We agreed.
While others went and did their thing, Gorock and I went to the Temple of Inoa. I gave the 30 gold I had in my pouch to tithe. I would not be finding any churches of the Inevitables in our travels because there aren’t any. I’m pretty much the only cleric of the faith. But Inoa is technically the Fathers’ boss, and she shares my hatred for necromancers. We met the priestess of the temple, an interesting human woman named Kelamne. I found her quite charming and invited her to drink a bottle of wine later that evening, which she kindly agreed to. She also sold us a healing kit, as well as a donating one to us to aid in our travels.
We also sold the Elfish wine to a fellow named Norlen, a purveyor of luxury items for five hundred pieces of gold.
The next day, we visited the Magistrate in his posh accommodations. He was indirect, but managed to let us know about some trolls causing problems in the swamp. I feel it is a bit reckless for us to go hunting for trolls, but haven’t been in any kind of mood to avoid a fight.
Upon leaving the Magistrate, we embarked into the swamp. Eventually, we were ambushed by a pair of wights. I’d never met an aggressive wight before. Apparently they are quite dangerous. Interesting. We squared them away with only one or two life-sucking touches landing, so not a bad day. The ill effects wore off by the next day.
Lest you, dear reader, be put off by our seeming incompetence in getting ambushed repeatedly, I hope that you can understand that some of us are so noisy that we have just stopped bothering to be stealthy within our immediate environment. Sure Oswald can creep off and sneak up on a mouse fart, and we can spot things at a distance and make a plan how to deal with it, but in close quarters, we are just the bait and the trap all wrapped into one.
