Story Arc: Party rents common room and dinner for 2sp each at Smiling Ogre Inn. We hear stories of Alex Kendelshire having gone missing 5 days ago while trying to source white oak across the river. Search parties have so far been unsuccessful. We get the impression that local authorities are about to give up. We also hear that the Church of Pelor is sending a replacement for Father Joe who is retiring. Also, Rupert reminds me that we heard a story about three elves being pulled out of the river and then buried. Someone comes each year and puts flowers on their graves.

Eva, a charming hedgewitch, comes to the inn and offers us potions and charms. Several buy damage reduction charms and other things which prove to be invaluable later on.

Alex’ mother Mary comes to the Inn and pleads to Ford, calling him Lord, asking him to help find Alex. Popular theory is that she heard him being called Ford and thought it was Lord. Ford agreed to help, although he may have been so flustered at being called Lord that he forgot to consult with the rest of us. Being men of good will, we fall in line. After some discussion, we decide to leave now, late in the afternoon, to give Mary hope that we’re for real, as she is a good woman in pain.

Across the river, we set up camp after some cursory exploration, noting that Alex would have had to go some distance to find white oak since any trees near the road have been harvested already. That night in the middle of the night, we encountered a Brownie named Nela who traded us some black walnuts for a dagger. We convince Nela to break fast with us and learn that he has knowledge of Alex. A wood nymph took him apparently. He doesn’t know exactly where he is, but knows who does.

Nela leads us to a gnome druid named Daphne. She says that Alex is with a nymph named Danus, and will not be willing to leave her, nor will she be willing to surrender him. Daphne suggests that nymphs love satyrs above all, and that there is a satyr in the woods two days away who might be convinced or bribed into coming to meet the nymph. She gives us two goodberries each, and wine to tempt the satyr.

We set out to find the satyr. We happen upon a deadfall and find it the hard way. We are attacked by man-sized spiders time three who are led by an ettercap. We make short work of them, but not before several of us are weakened by poison.

Once we mend, we set off again and find a wounded male elf, unconscious with a dart in the back of his shoulder.*

Apologies friends, for committing you all to this spider’s nest. But when the fairer sex drops to their knees and start calling you Lord, it’s natural to forget that there are others in the room. Or that you traveled with others to get to the room. Or your name. But hey, here we are!

Dont forget the three buried dudes and the mysterious flowers that keep showing up. Being a friend of the dead this may be right your alley there Malus.

Momma always said, If you keep company with no-gooders, trouble will find you. Well, I’ve stared death in the eye twice since I met y’all and I’ma starting to think I chose poorly. Just sayin’.

Maybe fishin’ ain’t so bad after all. The fish never tried to catch me back…

Hoping for smoother sailing for while.
